ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Just two days before Veterans Day, state and city leaders dedicated the new VA clinic on Rockford’s east side.
The 31,000 square foot facility actually opened back in September and local vets have been using it ever since.
The state of the art, $8 million facility has been in the works for about a year and a half. Leaders with the Department of Veterans Affairs say they saw a need for extended outpatient and mental health service.
"There is a growing number of Veterans in this area, so we wanted to expand our clinic here, so that they can have the services instead of traveling all the way to Madison for basic health care," said Judy McKee, the Director of the Madison VA Hospital and Clinics.
About 7,700 veterans will be able to take advantage of the new clinic.
