U of I Rockford Students Teach Residents at Fairgrounds How to be Healthier

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Experts say it's hard to convince kids exercising is fun, but if you had seen the faces on the little ones at the Fairgrounds housing complex, you would have a hard time believing that.

They were dancing for two hours today. University of Illinois College of Medicine students led a "Fitness for Life" workshop where they had kids and adults do a number of different dances.

They're trying to show everyone it can be fun exercising. The students say to be healthy, eating well is just as important as exercising and you just have to make a plan.

"We know that we should be eating healthy and we should be exercising...but it's hard to put that thought to action, “ says U of I second year medical student Mina Tanaka. “We kinda help the families create plans that is actually a tangible event for them."

The college says they'll be visiting with fairgrounds families individually this week to help them make plans for eating healthy and exercising.
