Two Arrested on Drug Charges in Gun Violence Investigation

BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- On July 8 the Belvidere Police Department arrested a 16-year-old subject in connection to a recent gang related shooting. In addition, three other subjects are also arrested during the investigation.

On June 26 at approximately 11:55 pm, Belvidere patrol officers responded to a call of multiple gun shots being fired in the 500 block of Star Street in Belvidere. Officers arrived and found a 21-year-old man with a gun shot wound to his stomach.

21-year-old Daniel Rivera, a known gang member of Wonder Lake, was transported by lifeline ambulance to St. Anthony Medical Center where he was in serious condition; Rivera has since been released.

On July 8 Police executed a search warrant in the 200 block of Nebraska Street, Belvidere. Police seized cannabis and drug paraphernalia from the residence.

Humberto Sanchez, 22-years-old of Belvidere and known gang member, was charged with one count of unlawful possession of cannabis and one count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Sanchez remains in the custody of the Boone County Jail.

Laura Palencia, 20-years-old of Belvidere, was arrested on a warrant for one count of unlawful possession of cannabis and one count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Palencia remains in the custody of the Boone County Jail.

A 16-year-old male and known gang member was also taken into custody at the residence. The juvenile was charged with armed violence in connection to the June 26 shooting.

The juvenile was transported to the Winnebago County Juvenile Detention center where he remains in custody.

On July 8 Belvidere Police Gang Detectives also searched a residence in the 2100 block of Davis Drive, Belvidere.

Police seized two hand guns from the residence. A 16-year-old male and known gang member was charged with one count of possession of firearm without requisite firearm owner's I.D. card. The juvenile was transported to the Winnebago County Juvenile detention center where he remains in custody.

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests and/or charges are expected.
