Two Rockford Men Sentenced in Heroin Case

OREGON (WIFR) - Two Rockford residents were sentenced Tuesday in Ogle County Court connected to an investigation of delivery of heroin near a church in Byron.

34-year old Andre T. Hawkins has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1000 feet of a church. 51-year-old Harvey L. Smith has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance.

The Ogle County Sheriff's Department and the Rochelle Police Department had joined forces after learning Hawkins delivered less than one gram of heroin to a confidential source while within 1000 feet of St. Mary's Church in Byron. Additionally, over $1100 in drug money were turned over to the state.
