Two Rock Co. Squad Cars Collide While Responding to Call

ROCK COUNTY, WI (WIFR) -- Two sheriff's squad cars collided while responding to another accident Wednesday night.

According to the Rock County Sheriff's Office, around 11 p.m., deputies were responding to a call of a man lying next to a motorcycle on the new State Highway 26 bypass near East County Highway N.

One squad car was driving in the inside line of North State Highway 26 in emergency mode. Once he spotted the victim, he changed lanes to pull over. A second squad car was traveling in emergency mode about 500 feet behind in the outside lane. The second squad attempted to maneuver to avoid rear-ending the car in front. It sideswiped the first car's passenger side and ended up in a ditch.

The driver's door on the second squad car had to be pried open. That deputy was taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center as a precaution.

Both squad cars received minor damage. The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating the accident.
