SPRING VALLEY, WI - Two people were cited after a single vehicle rollover accident early Sunday morning. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
The Rock County Sheriff's Office and Janesville paramedics responded to the accident on S. Tollefson Road near W. Lang Road just before 2 a.m. Sunday. The sheriff's office says upon arrival, a white Chevy Blazer was resting on the driver's side in the east ditch of S. Tollefson Road.
According to a press release, a preliminary investigation says 26-year-old Todd A. Haugen and 23-year-old Heather L. Higginbotham, both Footville residents, were heading north on S. Tollefson Road when the vehicle drifted off the roadway. Haugen reportedly overcorrected, causing the vehicle to skid sideways across the road and into a ditch. The vehicle rolled over twice, ejecting both the driver and passenger from the car.
Haugen was transported to Mercy Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Higginbotham has been treated and released from St. Mary's Hospital.
Police say the driver was cited for driving while intoxicated and causing injury by driving while intoxicated. Haugen and Higginbotham were reportedly not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
