ROCK COUNTY (WIFR) – Janesville Police say that a snowy road way and icy conditions are the major factors that caused a car to serve into oncoming traffic Wednesday night around 9:30, killing both occupants.
Jaime Paiz-Gutierrez, age 41, of Footville, was traveling eastbound on W. STH 11 when he lost control and swerved into a semi tractor/trailer, driven by Rockford resident Jeffrey Smith.
The semi struck the passenger side of the car and the vehicles came to rest blocking both traffic lanes on W. STH 11 for several hours.
Jaime Paiz-Gutierrez and his passenger, Guadalupe Ortiz, age 45, also of Footville, had been wearing their seat belts prior to the crash and were trapped inside the vehicle.
Paiz-Gutierrez and Ortiz were both pronounced dead at the scene. Jeffrey Smith was transported to the hospital and released with minor injuries.
