ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Tonight it was Anderson Gardens turn to show hundreds of travel writers what it has to offer.
The group of nearly 100 journalists ended their day at the Japanese gardens for a “Taste of Illinois.” It's a sampling of food from the area. They also had the chance to tour the grounds and talk to the founders of the garden about all it has to offer.
With more than 70 percent of Anderson Gardens visitors coming from outside the Rockford area, hosting events like this is critical.
"When we invite these CVB's and travel writers in from you know Chicago, Milwaukee, and beyond that really generates a lot of traffic for not only Anderson Gardens but for the restaurants, for the retailers, for the hotels," David Anderson, a member of the founding family, said.
The travel media showcase started yesterday and ends tomorrow with a closing reception at night.
