Three Charged in Belvidere Domestic Violence Call Turned Pot Bust

BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- Wednesday, the Belvidere Police Narcotic Unit concluded a drug investigation which began five days earlier when officers were dispatched to a domestic violence call.

On Saturday, Belvidere police were dispatched to the 500 block of East Jackson Street, Belvidere reference a domestic dispute. Officers arrived and discovered a cannabis grow operation in the residence. On this date, Belvidere Police Detectives, Patrol Officers and a Belvidere Police K-9 unit executed a search warrant at the residence.

Police seized over 50 cannabis sativa plants, packaged cannabis, drug paraphernalia and grow equipment.

At the time of the search warrant police arrested two individuals on drug charges.

Jeffrey Royster, 32, of Caledonia, was charged with battery and one count of unlawful production of cannabis sativa plants. Royster is in the custody of the Boone County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

Kelly Lawton, 51, of Belvidere, was charged with unlawful production of cannabis sativa plants Lawton was released from the Boone County Jail after posting a $5,000 bond.

On October 26, the Belvidere Police Narcotic Unit, along with Rochelle Police, searched a residence in the 900 block of 6th Street in Rochelle. Police seized cannabis, drug paraphernalia and united states currency.

Earl Richards, 27, of Rochelle, was charged with unlawful production of cannabis sativa plants. He is in the custody of the Boone county jail on a $5,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests and/or charges are possible.
