Three Acres Donated to Local Park

MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) – Nature lovers will soon have a new way to check out wildlife in Machesney Park.

The Schoonmaker Family has donated three acres of wooded land to the existing Schoonmaker Park. Township officials say they plan to add a few trails and benches to the wooded area, but it will mostly be left in a natural state so visitors can enjoy the wildlife. The township sees this transformation as a possible community-wide project.

“Maybe there’d be a couple of scouts, scout units that would like to help and it would be ways of getting their various badges. We’ve also been talking with Harlem High School, hoping we can mabe get some help and participation out of them,” said Terri Knight the Harlem Township Supervisor.

There’s no timeline yet on when the park will be transformed, that will depend on if any outside volunteer groups want to get involved with the transformation.
