Thousands Pack Martin Park for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

LOVES PARK (WIFR) -- Thousands of dollars were raised Saturday morning to help fight the battle against breast cancer.

It was a sea of pink around Martin Park for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. More than 5,000 people took part in the walk, including many breast cancer patients and survivors who say having so much support at events like these makes their healing process a little easier.

"To see that so many people are supportive of breast cancer and so many survivors here there is just so much love and warmth and encouragement," Brenda Reddic, a breast cancer survivor, said.

The American Cancer Society raised about $330,000 at the walk. All of that money helps women battling breast cancer, whether it be through buying them wigs or giving them rides to treatment. The money also funds research projects to help find a cure for breast cancer.
