UPDATE: Telecommunications at SwedishAmerican have been restored.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- SwedishAmerican Health System is currently experiencing difficulties with both inbound and outgoing telephone calls at all of its locations.

The health system is asking that only urgent calls be directed to 815-964-1062.

These difficulties are related to a much larger outage that is affecting customers throughout the Midwest, especially in the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Louis markets.
