Swedish Students Help Construct Home

ROCKFORD (WIFR) - A different kind of construction project is underway in Rockford's Midtown District.

High school students from Rockford's sister city in Sweden are in town to help East High School students build a Swedish-style home at the corner of Benton and Adams. Organizers say it not only helps keep the Swedish heritage alive in Rockford, but also puts a spotlight on sustainable building techniques. Some of the Swedish students we spoke with say it's a great experience for them too.

"It's an experience of a lifetime, really. We've been told about this from the very first day as a school, and everyone hopes to be the lucky one who goes here. Well, and to meet the people, see this whole different country," said Swedish student Nicole Herngren.

The group of Swedish students will be in town until April 19th.
