ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (AP) -- Authorities say a suburban Chicago police officer's colleagues pulled him to safety after he was shot while responding to a domestic dispute.
The Daily Herald reports the Arlington Heights officer was shot in the neck Thursday night.
Mayor Thomas Hayes said an "active hostage situation" was ongoing late Thursday.
Police say the male gunman is holding one person hostage inside the home on the north side of Arlington Heights.
Police Cmdr. Andrew Whowell says a number of officers were called to the scene and the officer who was shot was the first inside the home.
Authorities say the unidentified officer has been taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Hayes said he didn't know the officer's condition.
The neighborhood remains on lockdown.
