ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Students at rock valley college are standing up for their education. A group of students met today in favor of the faculty.

About 25 students met at the student center today, many worried about their education, future, and what will happen if the teachers vote tomorrow to strike.

The group is organizing what's called a "Student Union". Many discussed how their classes have been going in light of the situation, and how vocal their professors have been in class.

Handouts were given of facts, figures, and a timeline of whats happened so far between the Board of Trustees and the faculty union.

The faculty will vote tomorrow not to strike - but to allow the union leadership the right to call for a strike. The faculty would also have to give the college board ten days notice before walking out.

To Wake Up Rockford: From what I heard from my professors and fellow class mates is that the board has a top notch lawyer and the faculty doesn't. Is there a reason why the faculty doesn't have one or is it the boards decision on that they shouldn't need one?

To LeAnn: I know how you feel, and it is sad that the entire Rockford community may be affected by what this Board is doing. Even sadder still, is the fact that they don't seem to care. All they have to do is remove their decision to impose, and the strike doesn't have to happen. But they are clearly trying to assert their power over the college and the faculty, which means they are trying to assert their views onto the entire community. That is wrong, and should be offensive to anyone wishing to maintain a healthy, quality educational institution in Rockford. To Dave: I'm not sure what your problem is, but you're not helping. You shouldn't ever be angry about workers standing up for themselves, and for fair working conditions.

I hope all of you on both sides end up broke. Disgraceful on both sides.
