ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Hundreds of youngsters are hoping for a bigger challenge in the classroom next year.
More than 700 kindergarteners, first-graders and parents filled the halls and classrooms at Washington Academy today. The young scholars are testing for two hours to make it into the school's gifted program. Many of these students are considered at the top of their class.
Michele Beach, Dir. of Gifted Honors & Advanced Placement, says, "Usually, they have fun. These are kids that like to solve puzzles. Who like to figure out things that are a little bit tricky. So, we often send them off with a smile on their face."
Parents will find out if their students will be attending Washington Academy by early march.
