ROCK COUNTY (WIFR) -- At least 300 kids in Rock County are out of sports equipment, just as the youth football program begins, after a fire destroys a Stateline high school's press box.
The equipment along with memorabilia from past championships and games were stored inside this press box at Evansville High School. Police say they were conducting security checks at the school Saturday night, when they noticed smoke coming from the building. Rumors of arson haven't been ruled out. School District Administrator Jerry Roth says neighbors have already offered to help with fundraising.
"That's the beauty of a town like Evansville people pull together. We're very proud of our community and they're very proud of the school district," Roth said.
The fire caused about $200,000 in damage. A structural engineer is now looking into whether the bleachers are safe enough for Friday's football game. The district plans to have temporary seating if needed.
