ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford area veterans are being honored today for the sacrifices they've made.

Today is the annual "stand down for veterans" event. Doctors, dentists, members of the VA and career counselors were on hand at the Verdi club to help local vets with whatever services they need.

To make sure as many veterans as possible could participate, Rockford Mass Transit District offered them free rides all day.
