St. Patrick's Day 2014: How Bars and Police Plan To Keep Us Safe

LOVES PARK (WIFR) -- Police have been out in full force so far this weekend keeping an eye out for drivers who did a little too much celebrating for St. Patrick's Day.

Loves Park Police are adding four more patrols to the streets this weekend all looking for drunk drivers.

Police Chief Rodney Scott says his department arrested 208 people in 2013 for DUI partially because of special holiday patrols.

"Just be smart about it," said Scott. "No one's saying you can't do those things just don't get on the roadway and put other people in jeopardy don't put yourself in jeopardy."

Some Bar owners say they're providing services to party goers who have had too much to drink by offering rides home or partnering with groups of designated drivers.

Illinois State Police will also be out this weekend conducting roadside safety checks looking out for drunk driving.
