Sheley Attorneys Asks for New Trial

MORRISON, Ill. (AP) -- The attorney for an Illinois man accused of killing eight people in 2008 has filed a motion asking for a new trial in one of the murders.

The Daily Gazette in Sterling reports ( http://bit.ly/ZDcxeh ) that Nicholas Sheley's motion will be heard Jan. 16. That's the same day Sheley is set to be sentenced for his conviction in the bludgeoning death of 93-year-old Russell Reed.

Sheley's attorney, Jeremy Karlin, claims in his filing that there were 89 judicial errors in Sheley's case.

Sheley already has been convicted of murder and is serving a life sentence for the killing of a Galesburg man in 2008.
