UNDATED (WIFR) -- With the "Fiscal Cliff" looming and gun control talks resuming. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin is a busy man. But not too busy to visit with Rockford Airport Executive Director Mike Dunn.
23 News Anchor Mike Garrigan was able to talk to Durbin about his meeting with Dunn that took place earlier this week in Washington, D.C. Durbin says he told Dunn to count him in when it comes to seeking ways to fund a new project calling for the expansion of RFD's terminal.
"I'm all in when it comes to the Rockford Airport. The good news is there's so much passenger traffic at Rockford that we need a bigger terminal. So Mike Dunn and I sat down and talked about some options. There are a couple options. We want to see what's available at the federal level to help the local Airport Authority build this new terminal or expand the existing terminal. It's an important issue and one that I think can help the economy of Rockford," Durbin said.
Earlier this year Durbin helped support a nearly five million dollar grant to help upgrade RFD's runways.
