MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) – After failing to meet adequate yearly progress for years, a local high school is finally seeing some academic improvement.
Since this plan was developed, test scores have increased, but students at Harlem High still haven’t mad adequate yearly progress. Last year high schoolers were at 56% AYP, still below standards that are near 90%.
"What we want to do is ensure that every student in this district has the opportunity to do whatever they want to do when they graduate from high school. It doesn't mean we expect them to go to college but we want them to be able to if they wish," said Margo Sickele, Director of Accountability/School Improvement.
There will be a full report on the restructuring progress at tonight’s education committee meeting. It starts at 6 p.m. at the administration building.
