FREEPORT (WIFR) -- The Salvation Army of Freeport serves numerous individuals and families throughout the year with their services. Their job just got a little easier with a donation of an 8 by 8 brand-new, walk-in freezer donated and installed by Loescher Heating & Air Conditioning of Freeport.
Envoy John Wilson, Corp Administrator, explained,” Our community has been great giving us food and pantry items, especially during the holiday season. However, we need a place to put everything. And, this freezer is a tremendous help as we can store food from the community until they are needed. It is really, really cold in there!”
Sean Lane, Loescher Heating & Air Conditioning, stressed why it was important to make this donation, “Our community has been so good to us and we are honored to be able to give back whenever possible.”
Each month, the Salvation Army’s pantry provides a food box to over 200 families. According to Wilson, they are adding 25-30 new families each month to their pantry list. Monday through Friday, the Salvation Army’s soup kitchen feeds 125 to 200 people daily. Attendance at daily meals is steadily increasing, as well.
Wilson added, “The donation by Loeschers was awesome for us. Right now, we are using it to store donated turkeys for dinners and food baskets, along with other pantry items. In addition to providing us with more storage, it allowed us to eliminate older freezers which in turn makes us more energy efficient and reduces our bills.” Wilson explained how the new freezer is a tremendous help, not just during holiday time, but throughout the year, giving extra space to the Salvation Army to store donated food and perishable items, “We need food throughout the year to serve the families in this area. The new freezer gives us so much more storage space. It will make a big difference.”
