Anyone can volunteer as a bell ringer by going to ringbells.org
ROCKFORD (WIFR) – It seems like it’s never too early to get into the holiday spirit and the Salvation Army is at the front of the line to ring it in.
The holiday season officially began today at CherryVale Mall with red kettles and bells.
This is the 20th year Salvation Army and CherryVale have worked together to bring volunteers inside the shopping center’s walls. Every year the money made from the kettles accounts for one third of the Salvation army’s budget.
"So when you come to a store, you give a dollar, you give five dollars, that really adds up and is quite valuable and not just to the Salvation Army but to the community as we'll serve those in need now during the Christmas season and throughout the coming year,” said Major Steve Merritt with the Winnebago County Salvation Army.
