ROCKFORD (WIFR) – When we want to get a makeover, we head to the Salon. In this case, it’s the salon that’s gotten the makeover.

Shantay Johnson owned her shop, Salon Works for 10 years when the city told her she had to move to make way for the roundabout at Auburn and Main.

Instead of packing up her scissors and hair dryer, Johnson started a 2-year journey to find a bigger and better location.

Johnson and her stylists bounced around to several rental locations while renovations took place at Salon Works’ new site on Center Terrace off of Alpine. Today is her grand re-opening, with her new shop having two fireplaces, massaging chairs, and a unique feature called an air style bar.

“You don’t have to make an appointment, just come on in and get your hair blow dried and set and then whatever style you would like and if you’re on the go it’s the best way, it’s an express style,” Johnson says.

The ribbon cutting ceremony starts at 6:00 tonight. Anyone is welcome to check out the space during an open house tomorrow from 11 to 2 p.m.

Johnson says she has room to grow and is looking for stylists to rent chairs at her salon.
