ROCKFORD (WIFR) – A murder suspect is off the streets thanks to a Crimestoppers tip. Rockford Police have arrested Russell Jefferson in the alleged 2012 murder of 18 year old Dwayne Buchanan.

Around 10 pm on Sunday night, police executed a search warrant at a residence on the 600th block of 3rd street. A few moments later they arrested a man who had no identification. The man was brought in and finger printed and later identified as Russell Jefferson.

Police went to the address after receiving a tip from the Crimestoppers hotline.

Jefferson is suspected of killing 18 year old Dwayne Buchanan during a shootout on May 22nd, 2012 at the BP Gas Station on Central and Auburn streets.

More details regarding the arrest will be released later today.
