ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Veterans are the focus of the new roundabout at North Main and Auburn in Rockford.

Today was the official dedication of the roundabout which is called Veterans Memorial Circle. A nearly 40 foot flag was raised today during the ceremony right in the middle of the roundabout. The tribute goes hand and hand with some area history. The Greenwood cemetery is on the north side of Auburn where some veterans have been laid to rest. Camp Fuller from the civil war is also in the vicinity.

“That flag right there, the size of that thing and the size of that pole, there will be some tears coming around here, there will be some tears, said Dave Davis the president of the Winnebago County Veterans Association.
About 31,000 cars drive through the North Main Auburn intersection every day. The city is now looking to get businesses in the southeast corner of the roundabout.
