Rockford Readies for 4th of July Fireworks

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Rockford’s 4th of July committee is still fundraising for the big celebration which is now just days away.

Mr. 4th of July Joe Marino says the committee is still about $2,000 short of its goal. The organization will take donations until fireworks hit the sky above Davis Park Thursday. Marino is celebrating half a century of planning the fireworks and as always he says it’s going to be big this year.

“Don’t miss it,” said Marino. “It’s going to be one of the best we ever had. I would caution [people] to talk to their dogs because it’s going to be a loud one.”

The show is slated to start at 9:30pm on Thursday.

When it comes to our own celebration, Illinois’ State Fire Marshall is warning is to leave fireworks to the professionals this Independence Day, even when it comes to sparklers. They can cause third degree burns and of course fires. Last year the state experienced nearly 260 accidents.
