UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WIFR) – A Rockford man admits to killing an elderly woman in her basement apartment.
Reed Catalano pleaded guilty but mentally ill to first degree murder for the death of Elizabeth Kincade. She was found dead in her apartment in July 2013. Police say she had been severely beaten.
Catalano was living with Kincade at the time. He faces 20-60 years in prison. He’ll be sentenced January 15th.
UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Police have charged
43-year-old Reed Catalano in the beating death of 75-year-old Elizabeth Kinkade. Her body was found in her basement Monday night.
Catalano has been charged with the following:
First Degree Murder: 10 Counts
Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault of Elderly
Aggravated Domestic Battery
Concealment of a Homicidal Death
Catalano was already in the Winnebago County Jail. He was arrested earlier in the week for violating a 2011 order to stay away from Kinkade because he had beaten her up.
UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- We've learned the 75-year-old woman found dead in a home on South 6th Street was beaten to death, according to the Winnebago County Coroner. We're told her name is Elizabeth Kinkade.
Toxicology tests will be available in about two weeks.
So far, no one is in custody. Neighbors say she lived with another man not related to her. He is considered a person of interest. Rockford Police are still investigating.
ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Police are investigating what they call a suspicious death.
They were called to the 1100 block of S. 6th Street around 2p.m. on Monday. Officers say a 75-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment.
Police aren't saying how the woman died, but say they should have more answers after an autopsy on Tuesday.
