ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A Rockford Park District leader, who has been on the job for more than three decades is saying goodbye.
Ron Butler first started working for the park district back in 1976. Then he was just a seasonal employee at Alpine Park's maintenance shop. Flash forward 37 years and he was responsible for overseeing almost all parts of the park district as deputy director of operations. Most recently he was in charge of opening the Nicholas Conservatory. Butler says it's been great to watch the park district grow.
"The park district is my family and I will always be apart of it and if they ever need anything I'm more than willing to come back and be a volunteer," Butler said.
Butler tell us he plans to go hunting, play softball and he looks forward to spending more time with his family.
