Rockford Mayor Looking for Petition Signatures for Re-Election

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey needs to become a candidate before he can officially run for a third term in office.

The process is a little bit different for independents. Morrisey needs more than 1,000 signatures to be able to run for office. He's asking for more than 2,000 to be on the safe side. The campaign is going door-to-door this weekend in search of support.

Melissa Miller, Volunteer, says "It's important to volunteer because the mayoral is integral to the overall economy in Rockford and we need someone here who cares about Rockford."

There are four candidates running for mayor right now. The petition deadline is at the end of December.
