This will be the first summer in 30 years that Rockford will not host the annual "On the Waterfront" festival, and while that's a bummer for a lot of us, some local musicians are working together to make sure we don't dwell on the event's departure.
This is the first "Two-block party" along West State and Main. The mini street festival is hosted by the Main Street District, an organization that united 5 local business and musicians for the celebration.
Organizers say they want to give families something new this year, and still give them the chance to enjoy a downtown festival.
"We've got tons of great food, this will be just as good if not better than on the waterfront. we got, everybody's willing, participating and excited for this so it works," says Rob Bosecker, one of the event's organizers.
This event adds to the growing list of summer festivals. Rockford will also have the Screw City Beerfest downtown. That's September 7th.
