ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Average gas prices in the Rockford area are around $3.55 per gallon. That's an eight-cent drop within the last week.

According to GasBuddy, the current average is under a cent lower than a month ago but 46 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

The national average dropped four cents per gallon this week to $3.54 per gallon. That's two cents per gallon lower than a month ago and 31 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

"The switch over back to winter gasoline has begun, and I do expect that gas prices may continue to move downward this week," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst, in a press release. "By Halloween, my expectation is the national average will stand five to fifteen cents per gallon lower than where it is today."
