ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford firefighters responded to a fire Tuesday night at the planned new home of a fire station.

Fire crews arrived to an abandoned strip mall at Marchesano Drive and Clifton Avenue a little after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. Officials say they found a sofa on fire inside one of the empty storefronts. The back door was kicked in and glass was broken on the front door. No injuries were reported.

The fire department has proposed moving their current South Main Street fire station to the same building on Marchesano.
