ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Families in the Riverview neighborhood near 15th Avenue say they’re fed up with crime taking over their community.

A group of nearly a dozen neighbors met with community watch leaders tonight at St. Stanislaus Church. They say they’re going to fight back crime but need more community members to get involved if they’re going to be successful.

"It's up to each one of us to make a neighborhood and a community,” Cyndie Hall of Neighborhood Network said, “that starts with getting to know the person next to you, and next to them and across the street."

"If you have communication with your neighbors then you all can look out for each other," Brittany Claiborne said. She’s a new member of the neighborhood.

Some people in the neighborhood say they are too scared to stand up to illegal activity because they feel that might put their family in danger of retaliation. Others said they’re tired of not being able to live a normal life and that’s why they’re fighting back.

The group meets at the Church every month.
