Rockford Celebrates History During Annual Sock Monkey Festival

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Residents celebrate a part of Rockford's history by turning something old, into something new.

It was Rockford’s Annual Sock Monkey Madness Festival at Midway Village Museum Saturday. The event highlights the original stuffed sock toy made from Rockford red heel socks. The popular animal has been revamped into different characters and inspired art work. Parents and kids could decorate a monkey or create their very own toy. One parent says it's amazing to share this history with her kids.

"Not enough people know all the great things that Rockford has to offer, and it’s great to see something so special like this for us, for the families to do," said Beth Riggins.

The festival continues tomorrow afternoon...With the annual Ms. and Mr. Sockford pageant.
