ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Rotary Club’s regular meeting venue at Veteran’s Memorial Hall provided the ideal backdrop on Thursday, November 8 as Club President Robert Canfield led the Club in honoring Veterans. The meeting also celebrated Rockford Rotary Club’s commitment to the international efforts to eradicate polio.
Rotary District Governor nominee Shannon Scheffel (Loves Park Rotary Club), acting on behalf of District Governor Bob Hammon, presented the Rockford Rotary Club with a Certificate of Appreciation. The Certificate acknowledges the Club’s financial support to the Rotary Foundation in response to the $200 million challenge to aid the children of the world and eradicate polio. Ms. Shannon pointed out that November is Rotary Foundation month and thanked the Rockford Rotary Club for its support of this important international effort
The meeting was also attended by Brad Lauman, Manager of the Rotary International Peace Center in Evanston, IL. Mr. Lauman is a Rockford native and new Rockford Rotary member. Rockford Rotary Club President Robert Canfield presented a check to Mr. Lauman for $8229.75 (PHOTO- Robert Canfield on the right) representing proceeds from last year’s fundraising efforts to support the continuing polio eradication efforts. Mr. Lauman reminded his fellow Rotarians that we are close to ridding the world of polio - with the only remaining cases found in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Nigeria. He accepted the check on behalf of the Rotary Foundation and thanked the Club for the continued support.
