ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A few high school students got their chance to rock out with Rick Nielsen from Cheap Trick. Nielsen stopped by Cherryvale Mall to reveal his new dinosaur inspired guitar today.
Nielsen designed the hammer guitar along with Graham Spencer. Nielsen joined the high school band “Mister Johnson Experience" to play a few Cheap Trick songs for fans. He even gave away a few of his own guitar picks. The guitar, which features Nielsen's face and a picture of Jane the dinosaur, will join the Rick's Picks exhibit at Burpee Museum.
"I was the crummy one, they were in tune. I didn't even know I was playing out here, til I walk in, oh here you go Rick, oh ok. Luckily I know how to play although the people here would maybe disagree," said Nielsen.
The guitar will be raffled off at the end of the exhibit next spring. Cheap Trick is currently on tour with Aerosmith.
