ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Millions of college students are seeing interest rates on their college loans go up, since Congress didn't reach an agreement. Congresswoman Cheri Bustos says on Tuesday she's returning to Washington, D.C. to work on a deal.
"We have to keep those student loan interest rates lower. That's the way families can afford to send their kids to college. With that doubling that's an eleven thousand dollar expense over the life of that loan. and for some families that will prevent them from sending there kid to school,'' Bustos said.
On Monday Congresswoman Cheri Bustos made a stop by Lewis Lemon Elementary School in Rockford to read a book to students. The lawmaker says field trips like this help reminder her about the importance of education funding.
