BELOIT (WIFR) – A break-in that took just two minutes has turned into a loss of thousands for some Beloit business owners.

Ali Punjwani and his wife have owned the BP gas station on Beloit’s upper west side for 10 years. Today, it was business as usual, but it was a different story on Sunday. Around 3 in the morning, two people smashed the glass door with a rock and broke in, getting away with $1,800 in cash, liquor, and cigarettes.

The surveillance video shows the two men jumping over the counter, grabbing the goods, and running out, all in just two minutes. Punjwani says the burglars knew what they were doing.

“They were familiar with the location of the camera so they wanted to jump over the counter so the other cameras could not catch them,” said Punjwani.

While officers investigated the smash and grab, police believe the same burglars hit up another store on the other side of town. Gary Shoemaker owns a business right down the street from the Punjwani’s gas station. He says a recent rash of burglaries in the area makes him feel leery.
“There’s too many of them in this neighborhood. There was on just a week or so ago on Cleveland Avenue and our business is right at the corner of Cleveland and 213,” said Shoemaker.

Both Shoemaker and the Punjwanis hope police find the burglars soon.

They are the winners because they got the free goodies. If they are caught they will be in the jail and taxpayers will be paying their stay there and if they’re not they get the free stuff to sell into market.”

Police are looking for two white males. If you know anything you’re asked to call Beloit Area Crime Stoppers.

About four years ago, the gas station had a break-in. They already have a good surveillance and security system but now, they’re looking into more ways to keep themselves and their business safe.
