RVC Students Honor Veterans

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- As we prepare to celebrate Veterans Day, Rock Valley College is making sure local heroes aren't overlooked.

A ceremony was held at the Stenstrom Center today with special guest speaker, former student Brian Troy.

He needed a heart transplant after suffering heart failure and after surgery, he learned the donor was a veteran of the U.S. Marines. Troy told the crowd how honored he was to have received a veteran's heart and how he's gotten to know the marine's family.

"I got a heart from an honorable and well-loved fellow, and then I got a whole family. And it's just been an amazing journey,” said Troy.

RVC will host another ceremony tomorrow at noon. If you're interested in signing up to be an organ donor, you can visit donatelifeillinois.org.
