RSYO Ensemble Concert to be Held March 17

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Rockford Symphony Youth Orchestra (RSYO), presents the annual Spring Ensemble Concert at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 17 at First Lutheran Church located at 225 S. Third St. in Rockford.

The concert program includes performances by the RSYO Brass Choir, Percussion Ensemble, Honors Woodwind Quintet, The Sterling String Quartet, and the RSYO Honors Chamber Orchestra. Featured in this lively and varied performance are works by Ralph Vaughn Williams, Giacomo Puccini, Pytor Ilytch Tchaikovsky, Scott Joplin, and Joseph Haydn among others. Ensemble coaches include Ms. Vicki Hastings (Brass Choir), Ms. Young-Shin Yi (Sterling String Quartert), Mr. Scott Metlicka (Woodwind Quintet), Mr. Matt Eaton (Percussion Ensemble), and RSYO Conductor Daniel Black (Honors Chamber Orchestra).

The Rockford Symphony Orchestra is the parent organization of the Rockford Symphony Youth Orchestra. Founded in 1965, the RSYO offers excellence in music education and performance opportunities through challenging orchestral literature to young musicians throughout Northern Illinois.

Participation in RSYO also builds additional life skills including leadership, self-discipline, self-motivation, and teamwork. The RSYO has been led by conductor Daniel Black since 2009. Under Mr. Black’s direction, the RSYO was awarded second place for the American Prize - Youth Orchestra Division in 2010, was invited to participate in the Great Lakes Music Festival in 2010. The RSYO offers excellence in music education and performance opportunities for students who audition annually for positions in the youth orchestra.
