ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A national organization will honor the three local REACT crew members, killed in a helicopter crash this past winter.
An Air Medical Memorial is being constructed near Denver, Colorado. The site will be dedicated to hundreds of air medical crew members who lost their lives over the last 30 years. Seven people were killed in the last year including three Rockford Memorial Hospital employees who were killed in December when their aircraft went down on the way to a call in Lee County. The men and women will be honored this Friday with the dedication of a special garden.
“Just kind of a peaceful area where family and friends of the crew can relax and take solace knowing these individuals didn't die without a cause," says Keith Johnson, a board member for the Air Medical Memorial. His own brother-in-law died when a UW Med Flight Helicopter crashed in 2008.
