ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- More than 400 jobs could be on the way to the Rockford area over the next 3 years, if local manufacturing companies follow through on their plans to expand.
Over 120 area companies said our workforce is their biggest issue in the “Voice of the Customer” survey, conducted by the Rockford Area Economic Council. The results allow RAEDC to figure out how to help local manufacturing companies and other businesses grow. We’re told 34% of those surveyed plan to expand, but employers are struggling to find skilled workers.
"We have openings that we're looking for people with skills and it makes it difficult to find to them, you know, but the Rockford area has a good workforce and trainable workforce," said Teresa Beach Shelow, Preseident of Superior Joining Technologies.
A struggling workforce is also a problem nationwide. That's why the fabricators and manufacturing association is hosting a manufacturing day in October to possibly recruit and educate high school students.
