POPLAR GROVE, Ill. (AP) -- Poplar Grove could prove to be a place where chickens can settle down.
The Rockford Register Star reports village officials in Poplar Grove are now considering whether to let residents to have chicken coops in their yards. The move comes after Machesney Park and Capron decided against allowing residents to keep the barnyard fowl.
The issue has come up in the village, but while some officials favor the idea of residents having easy access to pesticide-free eggs, others have wondered if the chickens might attract predators.
Members of the city's planning and zoning commission will look at the issues ranging from permits, aesthetics and ordinance enforcement, but won't discuss it until the commission's November meeting.
