UPDATE: A Poplar Grove man is in custody after a 15-hour standoff that ended early Friday morning.
According to the Boone County Sheriff's Office, they received a call around 11 a.m. Thursday for a welfare check.
When they arrived, the 47-year-old man had barricaded himself in his home. The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office, Belvidere and Illinois State police provided assistance.
Before 2 a.m. Friday, the man was taken into custody without incident.
UPDATE: The police standoff in Poplar Grove has been resolved.
According to the Boone County Sheriff's Department, the man came out before 1:30 a.m. Friday. No one was hurt.
No additional details on the incident are available yet.
POPLAR GROVE (WIFR) -- A police standoff that started late Thursday morning is continuing into the night in Poplar Grove.
The Winnebago County SWAT Team has been active on the scene where man has barricaded himself inside an apartment complex near Highway 76 and Countryside Estates Drive.
The road leading to the building has been blocked off for almost 12 hours.The Boone County Sheriff's Department says they were called out to the scene at around 10:30 Thursday morning. Their department is in charge of the efforts but they aren't telling us much. We don't where this all started, how or even why.
John Halverson, Lives in Same Apartment Complex, says "I heard a helicopter flying really low.. and I heard it hovered over into the corn field and then a few minutes later some detectives, they started knocking on the door and telling everyone that they should just evacuate the area."
Laura Rodriguez, Lives in Next Building, says "We're definitely glad that the cops, like, took charge of the situation and even though it is an inconvenience to have to leave our home and not be able to go back, we're glad that they took us into account and our safety."
Some of the families tell 23 News they've never seen anything like this before in their neighborhood. Police didn't confirm whether the man was armed, but judging by the response with the personnel an equipment at the scene they're not taking chances.
There are eight town home complexes right near where this is going on. Residents say only two of them where evacuated.
Police say a suspect has barricade himself inside an apartment.
