UPDATE: Man Charged With Murder After Shooting on Rockford's East Side

UPDATE: Rockford Police have charged a 32-year-old man with the murder of 27-year-old Ramone Bowen, the man killed in a shooting on Javelin Drive Thursday afternoon.

Michael Medearis of Rockford was arrested and charged with two counts of first degree murder and was taken to the Winnebago County Jail in lieu of bond.

Police say around 12:30 p.m. they were called to the 4800 block of Javelin Drive near the East State Street Antique Mall. Neighbors say they heard an argument and then gunfire.

Police tell us Bowen was shot in the chest. The death is still under investigation by the Rockford Police Department and an autopsy is pending by the Winnebago County Coroner's Office.


UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- 27-year-old Ramone Bowen of Rockford has been identified by the Winnebago County Coroner's Office as the man killed after a shooting on Rockford's east side.

Rockford police tell us they do have someone in custody in connection with Bowen's death.

Police say around 12:30 they were called to the 4800 block of Javelin Drive near the East State Street Antique Mall. Neighbors say they heard an argument and then gunfire.

Police tell us the 27-year-old was shot in the chest and that the suspect tossed two guns in a nearby trash can while trying to leave the scene. Detectives are now looking at security footage.

The death is under investigation by the Rockford Police Department and an autopsy is pending by the Winnebago County Coroner's Office.


ROCKFORD (WIFR) – A man is dead after police say he was shot during an argument on Rockford’s south east side.

Rockford Police tell us they’ve arrested someone in connection with the man’s death. Detectives are just wrapping up their investigation near the East State Street Antique Mall.

The shooting happened just after 12:30 behind an apartment complex in the 4800 block of Javelin Drive, a neighborhood south of East State Street near Panino’s.

Our own Whitney Martin was actually near the area at the time of the shooting as the 27-year-old victim was placed into the ambulance. Neighbors tell us they heard yelling before the man was shot in the chest. Police responded within minutes and say they have a suspect in custody. They also say the suspect tossed two guns in a nearby trash can while trying to leave the scene.

This is Rockford’s first murder this month, compared to last summer when there were eight murders in July 2013 alone. The name of the suspect and the victim have not yet been released.


UPDATE: Rockford Police tell us the victim in a shooting in the 4800 block of Javelin Drive earlier this afternoon has died.

Police do have a suspect in custody.
