Parents Voice Concerns About Rockford Public School Policies

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Rockford Public School parents ask for a special meeting to go over some of the district’s policies tonight at Auburn High School. Only a few actually attended the meeting.

Those that did attend went over the district’s student code of conduct. One thing they focused on was the student suspension appeal process. The way it stands today, if parents appeal their child’s suspension the student still has to immediately stop going to class instead of continuing to go until the outcome of the appeal.

Some parents also voiced concerns after they say they heard of some parents being denied an appeal altogether by some school principals.

"That's in a direct violation of the student code of conduct,” Executive Director of Student Services & Alternative Learning Angela Hite-Carter said. “The student code of conduct specifically states that parents do have a right to appeal their son's or daughter's suspension for in school or on transportation."

Officials said they need hard evidence parents appeals are being denied before they can do anything about it.
