Online Sales Tax Struck Down

ILLINOIS (WIFR) – We won’t have to pay Illinois’ sales at the checkout when we shop on some online sites.

The State Supreme Court struck down what’s known as the “Amazon Tax” that forced internet companies based outside the state to collect Illinois Sales Tax.

Some local internet businesses fled to Wisconsin and Indiana when the law was passed in 2011 to avoid losing their affiliations with internet retail giants like Amazon who didn’t want to collect the money from customers at a virtual check out.
