ROCK CO. (RCSO) -- On Tuesday, April 3rd, at 7:32 a.m., Deputies from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office along with personnel from Milton Fire and EMS were dispatched to a single vehicle crash on CTH KK, just north of CTH M in Johnstown. A motorist passing by the scene called the 911 Center and reported a vehicle with extensive damage resting in a small grove of trees with the driver ejected, lying next to the vehicle.
At approximately 7:44 a.m., Deputies and Milton EMS arrived on scene. The driver, identified as 22 year-old Joshua D. Pelton with an address of 5507 N. Emerald Grove Road, Johnstown was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rock County Coroner at 8 :41 a.m. Fire and EMS searched the area around the crash and determined that Pelton was the sole occupant.
The initial investigation reveals that Pelton was operating a red colored Oldsmobile Alero and was traveling northbound on CTH KK at a high rate of speed. The Alero drifted off the east shoulder of KK when Pelton attempted to overcorrect the steering and slid off the east shoulder . The Alero continued down an embankment where it struck a small grove of trees, ejecting Pelton.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team also responded to the scene. Excessive speed appears to be the main contributing factor in this crash, Pelton did not have his seatbelt fastened . It is unknown whether alcohol was also a contributing factor to the crash, however blood results are pending at this time.
